A Scope Sensitive and Result Attentive Model for Multi-Intent Spoken Language Understanding

Multi-Intent Spoken Language Understanding (SLU), a novel and more complex scenario of SLU, is attracting increasing attention. Unlike traditional SLU, each intent in this scenario has its specific scope. Semantic information outside the scope even hinders the prediction, which tremendously increases the difficulty of intent detection. More seriously, guiding slot filling with these inaccurate intent labels suffers error propagation problems, resulting in unsatisfied overall performance. To solve these challenges, in this paper, we propose a novel Scope-Sensitive Result Attention Network (SSRAN) based on Transformer, which contains a Scope Recognizer (SR) and a Result Attention Network (RAN). Scope Recognizer assignments scope information to each token, reducing the distraction of out-of-scope tokens. Result Attention Network effectively utilizes the bidirectional interaction between results of slot filling and intent detection, mitigating the error propagation problem. Experiments on two public datasets indicate that our model significantly improves SLU performance (5.4\% and 2.1\% on Overall accuracy) over the state-of-the-art baseline.


Semi-Supervised Temporal Action Detection with Proposal-Free Masking

Existing temporal action detection (TAD) methods rely on a large number of training data with segment-level annotations. Collecting and annotating such a training set is thus highly expensive and unscalable. Semi-supervised TAD (SS-TAD) alleviates this problem by leveraging unlabeled videos freely available at scale. However, SS-TAD is also a much more challenging problem than supervised TAD, and consequently much under-studied. Prior SS-TAD methods directly combine an existing proposal-based TAD method and a SSL method. Due to their sequential localization (e.g, proposal generation) and classification design, they are prone to proposal error propagation. To overcome this limitation, in this work we propose a novel Semi-supervised Temporal action detection model based on PropOsal-free Temporal mask (SPOT) with a parallel localization (mask generation) and classification architecture. Such a novel design effectively eliminates the dependence between localization and classification by cutting off the route for error propagation in-between. We further introduce an interaction mechanism between classification and localization for prediction refinement, and a new pretext task for self-supervised model pre-training. Extensive experiments on two standard benchmarks show that our SPOT outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives, often by a large margin. Platoon trajectories generation: A unidirectional interconnected LSTM-based car following model

Car following models have been widely applied and made remarkable achievements in traffic engineering. However, the traffic micro-simulation accuracy of car following models in a platoon level, especially during traffic oscillations, still needs to be enhanced. Rather than using traditional individual car following models, we proposed a new trajectory generation approach to generate platoon level trajectories given the first leading vehicle's trajectory. In this paper, we discussed the temporal and spatial error propagation issue for the traditional approach by a car following block diagram representation. Based on the analysis, we pointed out that error comes from the training method and the model structure. In order to fix that, we adopt two improvements on the basis of the traditional LSTM based car following model. We utilized a scheduled sampling technique during the training process to solve the error propagation in the temporal dimension. Furthermore, we developed a unidirectional interconnected LSTM model structure to extract trajectories features from the perspective of the platoon. As indicated by the systematic empirical experiments, the proposed novel structure could efficiently reduce the temporal and spatial error propagation. Compared with the traditional LSTM based car following model, the proposed model has almost 40% less error. The findings will benefit the design and analysis of micro-simulation for platoon level car following models.
